Are you self-sabotaging when it comes to your health goals?
March 2024
Something I see over and over again in clinic is people going all in with their health by setting unsustainable, unrealistic and unachievable goals.

No matter how well your intentions are, making drastic changes or juggling too many things at once often leaves to frustration, and giving up on your health goals before you gave yourself a proper chance to start.

So what's the key? 🔑

Start by picking out what you want to change and take it step by step.

For example, let's say you want to revamp your health by hitting the gym regularly, eating more veggies, drinking more water, cutting back on alcohol, prioritising sleep, and switching to whole grains. Instead of trying to do it all at once, pick one goal to focus on first. Maybe it's the one you think will have the biggest impact, or perhaps it's the easiest for you to start with. Work on that until it feels like a natural part of your routine.

As an example, if you're thinking about incorporating more veggies into your diet, start small by adding a salad to your meals a couple of times a week. As that becomes second nature, gradually increase your veggie intake until you're enjoying them with every meal. Eventually, you can explore creative ways to incorporate veggies into your snacks or favorite dishes.

Taking these small, manageable steps not only adds up over time but also helps you build momentum and stay motivated. By setting goals that are realistic and achievable, you'll be more likely to stick with them and feel a sense of accomplishment as you make progress on your health journey.
